ABOUT BASKETS BY SUSAN

In the early 90's, I started weaving with a group of friends who attended a monthly basket making workshop. I fell in love with the very first creation - a melon basket. When the monthly workshops could not come soon enough, I purchased my own weaving materials and supplies and instructions and started experimenting and attended basket weaving conventions. When the baskets started taking over my house, it was my husband who suggested I start participating in various art and craft shows in New York.

In 2005, I joined forces with my cousin, Babs, who hand crafts scherenschnittes (paper cutting). Babs and I hit the road selling and participating in shows and stores in NY, PA, MA, and on the internet. She has since moved to Florida taking her wonderful schnitts with her.

Due to the overwhelming response since putting up the site and my love for attending shows that need lots of inventory built up, web orders are filled only as time permits.

Each basket you see in this site and all colors added are handwoven, hand dyed, and hand stained by me. Each scherenschnitte is hand crafted one at a time by Babs. No hired help goes into creating these baskets or schnittes, and because it's just one weaver and one paper cutter, no wholesale orders are taken.

Thank you for stopping by - Susan
